Au gratin potatoes are the best! While you may believe this dish is out of your league for preparing on your own, it actually can be easily made and the results will be restaurant quality.
A slow cooker makes this dish very easy to prepare, and creates a very delicious meal.
Here’s what you will need to get started:
5 medium-sized potatoes
3 tablespoons of butter
3 tablespoons white flour
1 clove of garlic (peeled and minced)
1 onion (peeled and sliced)
1 cup of milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1. Wash and peel your potatoes. Some people don’t like washing, since they are going to peel anyway. But always give them a decent wash since dirt can get on the potato when you peel.
2. Slice potatoes into discs, roughly half a centimeter thick. Another way to think of this is 2 or 3 silver dollar sized coins stacked together.
3.Line the bottom of your slow cooker pot with the first layer of potato slices. Add salt and pepper to your taste. Add the next layer of potato slices. Finally, add salt and pepper again. Now keep repeating this process, until you run out of your slices.
5. Now add shredded cheese. Keep whisking until you have something thick, but make sure it’s still smooth.
7. Now cook it on the “high” setting in the slow cooker for around 3 hours. Check every 15-30 minutes until you can easily poke through the potatoes with a fork. Once you do it the first time, then you’ll know the perfect time. Now use your chives for garnish.
